Our Start

The INNOV Applied Research and Innovation Centre was established in 2005 by the Collège Communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick (CCNB) to respond to growing demand for applied research and industrial services in New Brunswick.

Timeline

The Innovation Arm of CCNB Since 2005

The INNOV Center for Applied Research and Innovation was established in 2005 by the New Brunswick Community College (CCNB) to meet the growing demand for industrial research and services in New Brunswick. Take a look at the key milestones in our history:

2005

Hiring of the first researcher to assess applied research potential.

Creation of three research divisions:

Advanced Manufacturing

Advanced Materials

Bioeconomy

2008

Membership in the Springboard Atlantic Inc. network, supporting the commercialization of research in Atlantic Canada.

2009

Eligibility for funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC).

2011

INNOV enters the TOP 50 Canadian colleges active in applied research and has remained there every year since.

2019

The Advanced Manufacturing division in Bathurst joins Tech-Access Canada.
Designation as a Technology Access Centre (TAC) by NSERC.
Sole representative of the network in New Brunswick.

Today

More than 100 applied research contracts per year with private-sector companies.

Mission

Support businesses and organizations in the identification and implementation of innovative solutions through applied research, technical assistance, training and strategic support for commercialization.

Our approach is based on interdisciplinary collaboration, agility and measurable impact.

We combine the strengths of CCNB’s Innovation Centres to provide end-to-end support, from proof of concept to commercialization.

Vision

In 5 years: To be the innovation arm of businesses and organizations in New Brunswick and throughout the Atlantic Provinces, with a network of 3 to 4 innovation centres.

In 10 years: To become a hub for attraction and capacity building for businesses by fostering a culture of innovation, circularity and sustainability.

INNOV is a member of Springboard Atlantic and Tech-Access Canada and has ranked among the top 50 Canadian colleges in applied research for over 10 years, including 6 times in the top 25. Our centres benefit from the support of partners such as NSERC, ACOA, NBIF, NRC IRAP, WorkingNB, ONB and RIF.
